Up-cycling a special Gift into a Christmas keepsake

Hello all,

Have you pulled out your Fall and Christmas craft stash yet. I usually don’t until closer to October however, this year, it felt right to start early. With the drag of COVID on the usual Summer fun, I thought it would be nice to start my Fall and Christmas crafts early as it always lifts my mood and makes me happy.

So far, I have created a few Fall pumpkin pieces and a special Christmas ornament.

This pumpkin is featuring Dew Drops from The Robin’s Nest and you can find the details about this project over on the Chattering Robin’s Blog .

I then collaged a wood pumpkin plaque (that I got from the dollar store) and mounted it to a base board treated with crackle medium.

And, of course, I had to put out my fall decorations.

Finally, my favorite project of late. I created an ornament from half of a walnut shell. Why is this so special? It is so very special because the walnut shell as a gift from my cute little grandson. He often gives me little gifts of things he finds (rock, walnut shell) and if he can’t find something…he will gift me his toy dinosaurs (which I gift back to him). He is just so sweet.

Here is a lava rock he collected for me while we were on a picnic earlier this year.

I thought making the walnut shell into an ornament would be a great way to treasure and save this special memory. Every year, when I put this ornament on my tree, I will think of the day that I received a sweet gift of a walnut shell from my adorable grandson. Isn’t that what the holiday are all about?

I hope these projects will inspire you to get started on your fall/holiday craft projects.

Happy day!

Rolling with the Changes…

Hello all,

If you follow me on Facebook then you will have likely have seen the announcement below:

***Important Announcement***

With a heavy heart and a sting to my never give up attitude, I announce the closure of the Loriscardsandcreations.com retail website. The cost just outweighs the benefits of running the site. So, if you are interested in any of the digital designs that are available, the site will be open until the end of July for purchases.

The good news is that my blog Confessionsofastampoholic.blog will remain active and I will move and update that site with some of the information from the Loriscardsandcreations.com site. I will also be posting my original artwork and clear polymer stamps for sale over at my old Etsy shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/LorisCardsCreations). However, the digital images will not be available on Etsy as the fees for posting this type of product are just too high.

Thank you to all who have supported my endeavor to open and run the Loriscardsandcreations.com retail site. I hope you will continue to follow me on my other social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, YouTube as well as Etsy and WordPress blog @ Confessionsofastampoholic.blog).

Ever the optimist, I remind myself that as one door closes another door usually opens. So, we will see what the future holds for me as I keep an eye out for new opportunities.
Happy day to you,
Lori

Although the reality of this closure was very tough to me to come to terms with, I am doing my best to continue down my crafty path.  Maybe, the retail site just wasn’t the right direction for me and maybe there is something greater waiting for me right around the corner.  So, I am moving on and exploring my options.

The closing of my retail site was really the 2nd blow to my crafting world this Summer as COVID-19 pretty much shut down all of the art festivals and local markets.  I am sure that many of you are dealing with similar, if not more serious and scary, issues involving COVID-19.  My heart goes out to all who have been stricken down by this awful virus as well as to the friends and families who have lost loved ones.   I do realize that in the larger scheme of things, I am very lucky to have my family and my health.

With that all being said, I move on to the additional goings on my in crafty life.  As in, I am re-opening my Etsy site (as mentioned in my Facebook post) to post a sell my original artwork and clear polymer stamps.  In fact, the Mixed Media collage below, “Bloom Wildly, should be up on the Etsy site by the end of the day.

Bloom Wildy main

Another step I have taken to help me through the difficult time of COVID closers and isolation, was to focus on something new.  Focusing on learning something new really helps to keep me grounded.  So. I have started exploring the use of herbs, essential oils and crystals for bath, body and medicinal purposes.  I am really enjoying researching and creating hand made products.  I am learning so much!

I have made a few products and posted them under Lori’s Cards & Creations  however, I have decided to post information about this new direction under the name “Varity Bloom“.  Thought it would be less confusing to post my traditional Mixed Media work under Lori’s Cards and my new adventures into herbalism ect…under the name “Varity Bloom“.  So, you will start to see posts from me this new title soon.

I hope his post find you enjoying your Sunday doing something that you love to do.  Be safe and stay healthy other there!

Happy day,

Lori

A different kind of Mixed Media…

Hello all,

I have been exploring a different kind of art and craft lately using my essential oils and herbs.  It is all a part of my plan to use more natural products and limit unhealthy ingredients that I consume (internally and externally).

This post is walking you through my recipe for a “Touch of Sunshine” liquid hand soap.  This recipe was inspired by DIY Liquid Handsoap Pinterest pin by Happy Mothering.  My recipe has been tweeked a bit as I wanted to make mine more bright, cheery and full of sunshine!

Ok, so I maybe it’s a bit corny, but the root of this recipe is the infusion of sunshine.  Infusion of what?!? Yes, sunshine.  By placing my water into a jar and setting in the sunshine, I get the spirit of sunshine into my recipe.  Hey, it works for me!   And…I hope it works for you too.

Check out the recipe card as well as the Quick Tips “A different kind of Mixed Media” video below for the step by steps.
