Allsorts Challenge – Mixed Media Tag

Hello all,

Hope you all had a great weekend!  I just got home from a short weekend trip to see family; wonderful company and a nice BBQ made for a great visit!  Now, after the long 6 hour drive, I am just relaxing with a cold drink and a quick blog post.

The project that I am sharing with you tonight is a large mixed media tag for the Allsorts Challenge blog.  This week the theme is “Tags” with “Lost Coast Designs” as the sponsor; one lucky participant will get a $10 store voucher!  How cool is that!?!?  Also, challenge entries are eligible for a 15% store discount.   Click on the link below to join the Allsorts Tag Challenge for your chance to win $10 from Lost Coast Designs along with a 15% store discount upon entering.

For my challenge entry, I created an Art Journal page for my Tag Journal.  This tag is all about layers.  Layers of stenciling (with texture paste), acrylic paint, stamping, and embellishments.  Not to mention a few vintage buttons thrown in.  I love building layers and dimension into my projects!

Mixed Media – Calculated Chances

Hello all,

Well, it’s back to work tomorrow after a week off.  I had a wonderful time taking a road trip with my husband.  Got to see the The Grand Canyon for the first time and it was amazing!

Today, I have tried to rest up a bit and relax with some art time.   So, I created this Mixed Media piece titled “Calculated chances” with Acrylic Paint and molded paper clay embellishments.  It is always nice to get back home after being away…especially back to my craft space!  🙂

Lost Coast Designs Challenge #57

Hello all,

“No Body Here”?  Yep, that is the theme for this week’s challenge over on the Lost Coast Designs’ Portal of Creativity Blog.  With a few their really cool stamps, Nuance Powders and some other supplies; I made this card full of layers and dimension.

lgdominos
Large Domino

Instructions:

  1. Start with water color paper and first wet it down with a few sprays of water.  Then drop some Nuance powder down over the wet paper and let the color spread.  Add more water to get more movement from the powders and then dry.  Repeat this step with a few colors until to achieve the desire effect.
  2. Stamp the Large Domino stamp over the bottom of the piece that you just colored (see card for placement), using Cool Graphite Archival ink.
  3. Splatter the piece with some watered down black paint.  Allow to dry or heat set.
  4. Cover the entire image with DuraClear Matte Varnish.  Note: the Nuance powders may spread a bit when doing this and that is ok.  I just applied the varnish from left to right so I would have some direction to the smears.  Allow to Dry or Heat set.
  5. Stamp the Art Doll image onto the center of this element with Jet Black Archival Ink.  Again, see card above for reference.
  6. On separate piece of white card stock, stamp the bee image from the More Bugz set with Archival ink (Jet Black).  Coat with matte varnish and allow to dry.  When dry, give it a close trim with your scissors.
  7.   Use PITT pens to add color to your Art Doll and Bee images.
  8. Adhere Bee stamp over domino in center of Art Doll.  I left the wing free and bent them up for some additional dimension.
  9. Link two metal gears and a clock arm together with a brad and then adhered them over the face of the Art Doll.
  10. Adhere this entire piece onto a black card base.
  11. Add washi tape to upper left and lower right corner.
  12. Add Adhesive enamel dots over washi tape.

Done!

Other products used:

  • Ranger Archival ink, Jet Black & Cool Graphite
  • Tim Holtz Idea-ology Washi tape
  • Adhesive Enamel Dots
  • Metal Gears, clock arm, brad
  • Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pens
  • DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint, Lamp Black
  • DecoArt DuraClear Matte Varnish
